Alma Negra : "Alma Negra Collective consists with four musically driven Swiss guys. The Figuiera Brothers Dersu & Diego who’s roots are entrenched in their Cape Verdian heritage, Dario with his half and half Portuguese/Italian mix and finally Mario with Spanish roots. The collective’s influences and skills are big; while some spent more time DJ-ing or producing, others have a wide background in musical knowledge encompassing Jazz, African, and Latin sounds through to Soul, Funk, Disco, and House/Techno. Influential artists are broad ranging but 3 stand out influences are Donald Byrd, Fela Kuti and Theo Parrish.
They can perform as a quartet, a trio or a duo. You can imagine the huge dynamic in terms of creativity; after one year they released out of nowhere their first edits on Sofrito and Highlife with their music played instantly by Nightmares on Wax, Gilles Peterson, Ben UFO and Tim Sweeney. Their energetic DJ sets are unique, fluidly making steps between organic rhythms and beats which is so much more than the usual afro/tribal-house sets. Having already played 8 hours sets with Acid Pauli at Katerblau or with Hugo Mendez at Renate Club, they have shown they are stepping up to the plate."
Greg Shepherd : "In my world you will find a solid rhythmic base, layers of acid & colourful synth tones, as well as a subtly throbbing groove with an organic vibe. I consider myself to be less of a musician or composer and more like an architect of emotions, an artisan of sound. I love it and I will always want more of it!"
